Diabetes Awareness

HealthMatters is sent to approximately three-quarters of a million people — virtually all of them seniors who have diabetes. We want to provide you with accurate, useful information that will enrich your life, so your feedback is important to us.

Each issue contains a number of articles about food because what you eat has a direct bearing on your overall health. We want to tell you about meals that not only are good for you but that also taste good. That’s why we were especially pleased to receive a letter from Lois from South Carolina, that reads, in part:

I tried the pork chop recipe (Summer 2007, Summer S-I-Z-Z-L-E section) — fabulous! Who would have thought [of using] cinnamon? Cooking for [people with diabetes] is a challenge. HealthMatters is a huge help."

Thanks, Lois! We’d like to hear from more of you about how your recipes turn out, or about anything else in the magazine. One note of caution: Although we welcome questions about your health, if you have a potentially serious problem — such as wildly fluctuating blood glucose levels — pick up the phone and call your doctor right away.

— The Editors

Correction: The Summer 2007 issue’s House Calls column (page 20) said that the A1c test "can monitor development and progression of eye, kidney and nerve damage." It should have said it "can help detect the potential for development and progression of eye, kidney and nerve damage."

We’d like to hear from you
